Live In Dirt City

Live In Dirt City was an extensive research project executed by collaborator, Nelson Crane and myself, with the help of the other Graft members. For this project we collected hundreds of fliers from concerts that happened in Albuquerque between 1979 and 2016 and aimed to document the unique underground music scene. This is a history which is not well documented, due to the ethereal nature of music, and the lack of "legitimate" venues. Over the course of several months, we conducted interviews, xeroxed and archived fliers, collected and digitized music, and created a map of the underground venues that had come and gone. By documenting this culture, we contribute to making it last and having agency over the way it's story is told. Housing this show in a gallery venue honored the experience of musicians in Albuquerque and connected the musical community across generations.
